Guwahati: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has recently been signed between the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), which is based in Houston, Texas to establish the 'Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology in the premises of IIT Guwahati.

The school aims to commence academic activities during the current academic year and it will offer Masters and PhD programmes in Health Sciences and Technology. It will also contain state of the art facilities such as the likes of cutting-edge research in therapeutics, diagnostics, stem cells, public health, and health data analytics.

According to IIT, the multi-disciplinary programme has been designed while keeping the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in mind. The new programme intends to provide training to students in both theoretical as well as practical perspectives.

Ajay K Sood, a professor and the principal scientific adviser to the Government of India said that the school will bring in the budding academic leaders in the closest proximity to world-class educationists, scientists, physicians, technologists, and entrepreneurs.

He also added that it will be a catalyst in imparting high-impact research, diminish expensive biomedical imports and engender an academic curriculum that substantiates the vision of a sustainable society.

The MoU was virtually signed on May 14, 2022.

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is going to collaborate with the Assam Survey and Settlement Training Centre (ASSTC) to promote the training of ASSTC officers.

An MoU was signed in this regard on May 4 between the two institutions in the presence of Jogen Mohan, State Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Shantanu Gotmare, Director of Land Records and Surveys, Prof TG Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati, Pankaj Chakravarti, Principal of ASSTC and other officials from ASSTC and faculty from IIT Guwahati.

According to a press release, IIT Guwahati will conduct courses related to drone operation, training, maintenance, data collection, application in various sectors, theory classes on modern land management, and research and projects by leveraging their respective expertise in this area.
