LAKHIMPUR: A scam on illegal teacher appointment, in connection with the recent regularization of the posts of teachers of venture schools, has come into light in Lakhimpur district of late. In the meantime, the Directorate of Elementary Education has launched probe against the scam which has shaken the District Elementary Education Office.

As per information found in this regard, a person of Lakhimpur sent a message via WhatsApp to the Director of Elementary Education (DEE) stating that three persons had got illegal appointment at three Lower Primary Schools under Naoboicha and Lakhimpur Education Blocks of the district during the recent regularization of the posts of teachers of the venture schools.

The DEE then sent Abdul Zelil, the Joint Director of the Elementary Education, to Lakhimpur as per the information received to conduct a probe on the issue. Arriving in Lakhimpur, the Joint Director held meeting with the Inspector of Schools, Block Elementary Education Officers of the two Blocks concerned on March 4 at the office of the Inspector of Schools. On the same day, the Joint Director launched inquiry regarding the issue arriving at Gagaldubi LP School under Lakhimpur Education Block. The Joint Director also conducted inquiry in one of the two schools under Naoboicha Education Block. The Joint Director seized three illegal appointment letters from the schools under Naoboicha Education Block on Friday while continuing the inquiry. He also seized two appointment letters from the schools under Lakhimpur Education Block and three from the schools under Narayanpur Education Block. During the enquiry, the District Elementary Education Officer and the officers of the Education Blocks concerned extended their co-operation to the Joint Director. The district administration has constituted a team in this regard.

On the other hand, the North Lakhimpur regional unit of All Assam Students' Union on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of the district regarding the issue. In the memorandum, countersigned by president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Buragohain, the organization demanded the Deputy Commissioner to take legal step against an employee of the District Elementary Education Department, mentioning his name in the memorandum, alleging his involvement in the scam. Otherwise, the president and the general secretary declared that their organization would initiate democratic stir.
