India-Bangladesh’s two-day stakeholders meeting begins in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam government’s two-day stakeholders' meeting between India and Bangladesh has begun today on 22nd October in Guwahati.

The inaugural ceremony began in the presence of Assam and Tripura Chief Ministers, Commerce Minister of Bangladesh Tipu Munshi, Road Transport and Highway Minister of State V K Singh among others.

The meeting witnessed a 70-member delegation from Bangladesh, including two Central ministers and two advisors of the Prime Minister. A similar top-level team from India, including Union ministers, will represent the host nation.

According to Assam Commerce and Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary’s welcome speech, a lot of opportunities have opened between the two countries during the past couple of years for the growth of North East.

The minister also added that, the country’s first International multi-model hub will be set up at Jogighopa in Assam at a cost of 600 crore rupees.

According to sources, it reports that the idea of the India- Bangladesh Stakeholders Meet is to put Assam at the focus point of India’s trade expansion with Association of Southeast Asian Nations as well as Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.

Business to Business Meet on agriculture, mines and minerals, tea and infrastructure will also be held during the meet. It may be recalled that improving connectivity is important for Act East Policy through which the country is eyeing to extend its reach in the South East Asian markets.
