GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the three-day ‘Samutkarsh Mahashivir 2025’ organized by Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra at Sarusajai Stadium on January 29.

In his inaugural address, Governor Acharya stated, “Education is the essence of life. It not only shapes an individual's future but also plays a vital role in the nation's progress. I believe education also aims to create responsible citizens.”

The Governor talked about how important education is for building a civilized society. He referred to Aristotle's idea that a civilized society is made up of good people who become good citizens. He added that having a strong education system is necessary to strengthen the foundation of civilization.

He also mentioned that India's ancient education system was very advanced and rooted in Indian culture and wisdom. The main way of learning in ancient India was the "Gurukul" system, where teachers and students lived together, which helped in exchanging knowledge and overall development.

The main aim of education was to understand various aspects of life while enhancing intellectual and mental abilities. Ancient India had renowned centers of learning, such as Nalanda, Takshashila, Vikramshila, and Ujjaini. These institutions offered education in subjects like science, math, philosophy, medicine, literature, and others.

India's traditional education system focused on high thinking, self-realization, and service to society. This rich legacy continues to inspire millions even today. Governor Acharya praised Vidya Bharati for helping students grow in all areas, encouraging critical thinking, and teaching kindness. He emphasized the need to include technology in education to ensure young people are ready for the challenges of the world.

The Governor highlighted the National Education Policy 2020, the first comprehensive education policy of the 21st century, as a reflection of the harmonious blend between India’s traditional values and technological advancements.

The event was graced by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Mines and Minerals Minister Kaushik Rai, Chairman of the organizing committee Lieutenant General (Retd.) Rana Pratap Kalita, NEDFi Chairman PVSLN Murthy, Patron of Vidya Bharati Arunachal Pradesh Tai Tagak, National Secretary of Vidya Bharati Brahmaji Rao, and Secretary of Vidya Bharati Northeast Region Dr. Jagadindra Ray Chowdhury, along with several other distinguished guests.
