International Day of People with Disability observed in LGBRIMH, Tezpur

Tezpur: The LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health being a stand-alone institute with a regional mandate for mental health, has been regularly observing the International Day of People with Disability every year. This year also Centre for Rehabilitation Sciences, LGBRIMH, Tezpur observed the International Day of People with Disability in collaboration with Amaljyoti Sacred Heart Day Care Centre, Tezpur; Parivartan (NGO), Tezpur; Department of Social Work, Tezpur University, Love and Acceptance (NGO), Tezpur at the auditorium of the institute on Thursday.

All the invited guests, faculties, students and staff of LGBRIMH took part in the programme. The programme started with the lighting of lamp by persons with disabilities led by Dr. Lalithkumar Natarajan (Managing Trustee, Love and Acceptance NGO) along with guest of honour Dr. K. Kemprai, Joint Director Health Services, Sonitpur, Samshera Hazarika, District Social Welfare Officer, Sonitpur, and Dr. SK Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH, Tezpur.

The inaugural programme started with Dr. Sonia P. Deuri (I/C Centre for Rehabilitation Sciences, and Head and Prof. of the Department of Psychiatric Social Work) delivering the welcome address. Dr. Lalitkumar Natarj unfolded the theme of this year’s International Day of People with Disability – ‘Promoting the Participation of Persons with Disabilities and their Leadership: Taking Action on the 2030’ and expressed his concerns about the needs of the people with disability.

Dr. Kemprai spoke on the health-related services for the people with disability while Dr. SK Deuri, Director of LGBRIMH, Tezpur delivered the presidential message. He emphasized promotion of institutional facilities and to make accessibility a norm in all facilities. He declared that a Centre for Child Development would be coming up in few years to cater to the comprehensive needs of the children with disability.

SIVASAGAR: International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) was observed on Tuesday in Sivasagar with a day-long programme.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Junumoni Sonowal attended a meeting held in this regard at Tarun Sangha Reading Club at Darbar Field, Sivasagar. Notably, a sports competition was also held amongst the differently-abled sports persons. District Sports Officer Sanjay Upadhyay inaugurated the sports competition.
