TINSUKIA: The Sarvatmak education cell of Samagra Shiksha Tinsukia observed International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on Friday at GB Chowkhani HS School, Makum with day-long activities synchronizing with Prerona programme while five educational blocks of Tinsukia- Hapjan, Kakopathar, Sadiya, Margherita and Tinsukia Urban arranged week-long activities with divyangs, parents and teacher in respective blocks that culminated on Friday.

The programmes were arranged under supervision of Linuma Gogoi, district project officer. Various activities like running, football, musical chair were organized. More than 60 divyangs participated in the event in a joyful manner.

At GBC HS School Prerona, prizes were awarded to a divyang student, Ishrafil Raja of Hindi Vidyalaya Makum for his performance in the last HSLC examination and to Binoy Yadav, a teacher of Jawahar Hindi High School, for his remarkable association with divyangs. An e-magazine Dour brought out by Sarvakmak education cell was also inaugurated.

KALAIGAON: Along with the different parts of the country, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed on Friday in the premises of Balipara ME Madracha School with the initative of Khairabari Block of Sarba Shiksha Abhijan. The Khairabari Block of SSA celebrated the special day with a day-long programme among more than 200 students, especially disabled children. On the occasion, an open meeting was organized and this was presided over by Sahiruddin Ahmed. The meeting was started with a song by a group of students. After that, prizes were distributed among the students who were won first, second and third prizes in the play competition.

The first edition of a magazine titled Emuthi Zonak was also released in this meeting by journalist Arun Sarma and he was accompanied with Block Elementary Education Officer Bwhwithi Baro. Addressing the meeting, Block Elementary Education Officer Bwhwithi Baro said that all concerned, including civil society and the government, should stand for the well-being of the specially-abled section of the society. He also said that often negligence towards specially-abled people begins from their family.

Zakir Hussain also spoke in this meeting also. Several noted teachers like Nagen Das, Jalil Ali, Madhab Das, Bishwanath Das, Ramkrishna Chauhan and Matlib Ali were felicitated with gamosa in this meeting. NALBARI: Synchronizing with the theme of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 2021 'Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post-COVID-19 world', Nalbari Health Department, in collaboration with BJP Nalbari Committee, observed the day on Friday at Nalbari Natyamandir.

In continuation of the observances, 567 disability certificates were distributed among the specially-abled. During the last one month, every Panchayat of the district was screened and a total of 1,188 specially-abled people were identified.

MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah in his speech said that people should take advantage of various government schemes. He regretted saying that even the EWS quota was not completely filled in MBBS and engineering examination. Deputy Commissioner Gitimani Phukan, Joint Director of Health, Dr Umesh Phangshu, Dr Arun Barman, Dr Kameswar Lahkar and many dignitaries were present in the function.

GOLAGHAT: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed on Friday in the auditorium hall of Sishu Omala Ghar in Golaghat town under the aegis of Golaghat district administration and Social Welfare Department, Golaghat and in association with integrated child development projects and NGOs.

In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Arpa Baglary. Participating in the meeting, the District Development Commissioner explained the details of how to register a name for the UDID card. She also told the people about the various facilities available for divyangs in the district.

Participating in the function, Subdivisional Medical Health Officer Dr Hiren Saikia said that divyang people were an important part of the society and they should never think of themselves as less than others. In the event, 30 divyang people of the district were felicitated with UDID cards and phulam gamosa.

GOALPARA: The office of the District Social Welfare Department (DSWD), in coordination with the district administration, on Friday observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

In this regard, a solemn programme was organized at the DSWD office where frontline social worker and veteran author Sailen Das presided over. Addressing the occasion, Jayanta Kumar Bora, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), highlighted the government schemes introduced for the benefit of the persons with disabilities. He further termed this special class of people as the "integral part of the society".

Manindra Adhikary, DSW officer, earlier explained the significance of the day and welcomed the persons with disabilities present in the meeting and said, "This office is always open for your assistance and cooperation." Among others, Dr. Sanjay Choudhury, SDM&HO, attended and focused on the issue.

TEZPUR: North Assam Divyang Association, in association with District Legal Services authority, observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a day-long programme at District Library auditorium here on Friday. The programme began with the unfurling of flag by the chief secretary of North Assam Divyang Association, Mridul Kumar Borah and president, Jitu Nath, and cleanliness drive by working president Riyaz Ansari along with the members.

The inaugural programme was started with the lighting of lamp by Dr Buli Nath Doimari along with the guest of honor, Chinmoy Baruah, secretary, District Legal Services authority Sonitpur and honored guest, Dip Kumar Kalita, senior journalist and cultural activist.

Speaking on the occasion, Dip Kumar Kalita that the physically challenged must not be neglected as they are very much a part of the society. Kalita stressed the importance of integrating the physically challenged persons into the mainstream in order to help them contribute towards nation building.

The open session presided over by Tezpur MLA Prithi Raj Rava, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das and District and Session Judge, Chatra Bhukhan Gogoi as chief guest, among others.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das laid stress on the importance of registration of the people who are specially-abled so that the State Government can reach out to them and provide them access to different schemes. The government has taken various initiatives to empower the differently-abled through such schemes. Das also talked on the various social welfare schemes and the process of accessing them in a very elaborative way. In the programme people having contribution in various fields, including the Tezpur-based journalists, were felicitated. Various cultural performances performed by the specially-abled children mesmerized the audience.
