Rabindra Chandra Barua of the Indian Railways passed away in Guwahati after a brief illness. He was one of the first officers from the northeast to qualify for the IAS Allied Services and joined the Indian Railways Accounts Service in 1962. After serving in various locations of the Railways at Ratlam, Gorakhpur, Maligao, Railway Board, he was deputed in the first batch of the officers to Germany for training in Computerised Management of Indian Railways in 1972. He served as Director of Finance in IRCON. Barua was a keen sportsperson and served as the Secretary of the NFR Sports Board. He was instrumental in appointing many local Assamese youths in the Railways. Barua took a keen interest in promoting Assamese culture in the Railway institutions where he served. He was associated with the Maligaon Bihu. A socially committed person he headed APOL in Rangiya and also supported many local entrepreneurs to establish themselves. Barua leaves behind his wife Geetashree , daughter Alakananda and sons Atindra and Ameet.
