Irani Group Member Shot By Police During Encounter In Hojai

Guwahati: On Wednesday, an encounter was reported at Doboka in Hojai between the police and an Irani Group member.

The Irani Group member, identified as Akash Yadav, was allegedly shot at by the police during the encounter.

As per reports, the Akash Yadav was earlier taken to police custody for robbing an amount of Rs. 56,000.

According to the police, the accused was shot at after he attempted to flee from police custody.

In another case of encounter in Assam, a smuggler was recently killed while a BSF personnel sustained serious injuries in Assam's South Salmara district.

Allegedly, the cattle smugglers were trying to smuggle cattle across the Indo-Bangladesh international border when the gunfight took place.

On being challenged, the cattle smugglers opened fire at the BSF personnel. The exchange of bullets led to the death of one of the smugglers who is identified as 23-year-old Md Mondal and was a resident of Mondal Para in Mankachar police station area.

The other smugglers reportedly ran away.

Earlier, a team of Chhaygaon police, led by officer in-charge Kapil Pathak, arrested three cattle smugglers who were transporting 10 cattle illegally in a special operation. This incident is reported to have taken place on Wednesday.

The cattle smugglers have been identified as Rafiqul Miya (25), son of Dhola Miya from Champupara village, Devaraj Das (20), son of Kalicharan Das from Chamaria under Boko constituency and Mahibul Islam (30), son of Md. Naimuddin from Bbulukabari village under Chhaygaon constituency.

As per the information given by the police,  a TATA Xenon vehicle (AS-01-KC-1823) was also seized.
