DHUBRI: “Itihas Barta” — a compilation of articles penned by eminent writers of Dhubri to unearth the true history of the district, was released by Dhubri district Itihas Sankalan Samiti in a meeting held at Dhubri Kalibari auditorium on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Dipendra Kumar Adhikari who, at the onset of the meeting, outlined the objective of the Itihas Sankalan Samiti. Dr. Adhikari said that because of distortion of history, people were deprived of knowing many facts of yesteryears. Further, in the name of modern history some important and true historical events did not find place in the history, Dr. Adhikari lamented.

Assistant Registrar of IIT Guwahati, Dr. Subhajit Chowdhury, in his hour-long speech, spoke on Veda and Purans, and said these ancient books are source of history. “We are ignoring our history due to lack of interest. There are ample of important historical materials lying scattered in the nook and corner of Dhubri district which can be studied and researched including Chand Sadagar-Behula-Lakhinder episode as mentioned in the Padma Puran”, Dr. Choudhury added.

On occasion of centenary of tragic incident of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, an academician, Subrata Baruah, in her lucid speech, threw lights as how House of Lords and House of Commons of British Parliament opined and defended General ‘O’ Dyer for his heinous deed of cruelty. The meeting was also addressed by Dr. Jury Sarma, Dr. Sashankha Sekhar Sarma, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Upadhayaya, Prof (retired) Devendra Nath Sarma and senior journalist, Bijoy Kumar Sarma. Vote of thanks was offered by Manashi Sarma Masum dar.
