Jamugurihat: Artiste Baldev Saikia passes away

JAMUGURIHAT: Baldev Saikia, an eminent drama artiste, an active member of Assam Agitation and a resident of Dekasundar breathed his last due to prolonged illness on Saturday afternoon. He was 91. Born on 1932 at Dekasundar village here, Saikia first stepped as a theatre artiste in Nirbasan drama. And in 1963, he joined Nataraj Theatre produced by Achut Lahkar as a professional artiste. He had performed dramas for 35 years in different stages throughout the State. He was known for his powerful acting. On receiving the news of his demise, representatives of various organisations and individuals including Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, Baresohoriya Raij Sabha, Bapuji Bhawan Natya Samaj, Naduar Press Club among others visited his house and paid rich tributes to the mortal remains at his residence. His demise was widely mourned here.
