‘Jonaki Mel’ e-book released in tribute to poet Hiren Bhattacharyya

BOKAKHAT: On the eve of the 13th death anniversary of poet Hiren Bhattacharyya, poets and writers from across Assam came together via Google Meet to pay their tributes to the eminent poet.

Alongside the tribute, the third edition of the children’s magazine ‘Jonaki Mel,’ edited and published by acclaimed writer Mridusmita Sharma, was formally unveiled during the session. The digital release was conducted by renowned poet, playwright, actor, and Doordarshan programme director Mridul Sharma, and promising young talent Nishita Kashyap.

With the vision ‘Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens of the nation,’ the latest edition of Jonaki Mel is enriched with stories, poems, riddles, illustrations, quizzes, and spiritual knowledge to attract and nurture young minds. The commendable initiative of writer and journalist Mridusmita Sharma, who financed the project herself to provide a platform for children to showcase their talents, received high praise from all the guests present at the event. The session, moderated by health worker, poet-storyteller, and Central Publicity Secretary of the All Assam Poets’ Association, Pankaj Sapondit, saw the participation of around 25 literature enthusiasts from across the country along with several children.

The magazine’s visually appealing cover and content presentation won hearts, thanks to computer engineer Tridip Baruah. The cover design was done by young artists Prithvik Prantik Sharma and Gaurik Prantik Sharma.

Child artiste Indranuz Sapondit moved the audience with his recitation of the poem ‘The Angry Uncle Who Loved Trees.’ Another child artiste Darshana Goswami captivated everyone by reciting Hiru Da’s popular poem ‘Mor Desh’ (My Country). Talented writer and vocal artistes Nirmita Borgohain and Kalpana Devi added to the joy of the event by performing the evergreen song ‘Ati Ati Siroseuj.’

Artistes, writers, and children from various districts of Assam joined the event to support and encourage this noble effort to create a platform for future generations. The notable participants included Nirmita Borgohain, Kalpana Devi, Gautam Gayan, Minati Dale, Nabaneeta Sharma, Rita Konwar, Monirupa Mishra, Ruli Gohain, Apurba Ballabh Goswami, Tridip Baruah, Mridusmita Sharma, Pankaj Sapondit, Dr Utpal Das Minudekar, among others.
