GUWAHATI: In a mob attack on Monday 29 November that took place in Assam's Jorhat town, a leader of All Assam Student Union was brutally killed along with two others injured including a journalist.

13 persons were arrested as the culprits in relation to the mob attack lynch which occurred during the daytime and witnessed in the Nirmali Chariali area located in Jorhat which is one of the major cities in upper Assam.

Notably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already ordered the police to file the charge sheet within 15 days.

The deceased person was identified as AASU leader Animesh Bhuyan aged 24 who served as the Education Secretary of the Brahmaputra Anchalik Committee under the All Assam Student Union (AASU) of Golaghat district.

The police force reached the spot and immediately took the injured persons to the JMCH, Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. Two persons of whom one was a journalist got severely injured throughout the mob attack. The doctors informed that Animesh Bhuyan was already dead before he was brought to JMC hospital.

According to sources the incident took place following a car accident where an elderly individual got injured. Animesh Bhuyan and two other people attempted to aid the injured elderly person but at that time they were allegedly attacked by the mob in between gatherings that occurred in that place.

Prime accused named Niraj Das along with twelve others were arrested who were identified later as Deba Das, Abhinash Bora, Mohan Das, Bitupan Das, Akoni Das, Subhash Bora, Mohas Das, Subhas Bora, Sarulora Das, Subhas Das, Bongali Da and Bikram Das.

The main culprits behind the mob lynch attack in Jorhat town were Niraj Das and his father Mohan Das and another Akoni Das.

The All Assam Student Union (AASU) raised demands that all the accused who were the culprits behind the murder of Animesh Bhuyan must be apprehended with the time of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Assam education minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, who visited the residence of the victim of the Jorhat mob lynching at Dergaon on Tuesday assured that the state government would take steps for the trial of the case in the fast-track court.
