Jorhat Mob Lynching Case: Priyangshu Das Aka Tilouk Arrested

Jorhat: Another person linked to the recent Jorhat Mob Lynching case has been arrested by the Jorhat Police and he has been identified as Priyangshu Das aka Tilouk.

A total of 14 people who were accused to have been involved in the lynching and murder of All Assam Students Union (AASU) leader Animesh Bhuyan have been arrested by the Police so far. Also, the main accused in this horrific incident, Neeraj Das aka "Kola Lora", died on December 1 when he tried to escape police custody.

According to Jorhat district police, he jumped off a moving car and got hit by the Escort Vehicle at around 2 am on December 1.

The incident unraveled when Animesh Bhuyan and two others were traveling to Jorhat for some official work. It is alleged that they were involved in a road accident case wherein Neeraj Das's father was hit by their vehicle. In response, Neeraj instigated a mob of around 50 people who brutally lynched them.

The trio was severely injured and the police immediately rushed them to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) but however Animesh Bhuyan was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. This incident took place at the truck stand near the Nirmal Chariali area on November 30.

Ankur Jain, the Superintendent of Jorhat Police said that Neeraj Das had a criminal record of Drug Trafficking. "During interrogation, he told us about a consignment of drugs. He jumped out of a moving vehicle when our team took him to recover the consignment, but the escort vehicle hit him," he said.

He also added that the driver of the escort vehicle tried his level best to avoid hitting Neeraj but eventually lost control and struck a nearby wall injuring three police personnel. Like Animesh, an injured Neeraj was also declared dead upon his arrival at the hospital.

Animesh Bhuyan happened to be the Education secretary of AASU Brahmaputra Anchal (Golaghat Unit). His death has been mourned across the state and students of Cotton University lighted candles to pay tribute to him.
