BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon district Congress staged a demonstration on Friday demanding justice for Joshita Das, the PWD Junior Engineer of Bongaigaon, who died by suicide alleging extreme pressure from her senior officers. Thousands of people gathered in front of Rajiv Bhawan on Friday and shouted slogans like ‘Corrupted Assam Government go back,’ ‘Justice for Joshita Das,’ etc. Several leaders of the party including Girish Baruah, District President, Samiran Baisya, APCC Secretary, and others were present at this demonstration.

Meanwhile, the police arrested Debojit Sarma, the architect of the under-construction stadium of Barsapara area of Bongaigaon. Debojit Sarma’s name was mentioned by deceased Joshika Das for submitting incomplete and faulty estimates. Debojit Sarma, while being arrested by Bongaigaon police, addressed the media and said that he was under continuous pressure to submit such estimates by the higher engineers of the PWD department.

Notably, two engineers of the PWD department namely Dinesh Sarma Medhi, Executive Engineer, and Aminul Islam, SDO, were previously arrested by police.
