Hojai: Jugijan Government Model Degree College Demand Committee has requested Assam Government to include the proposed Jugijan Government Model Degree College in the State Budget 2025-26. In this context, a press meet was organized at Radhanagar Saotal Basti Kandulimari Sarbajanin Durga Bari premises in Jugijan under Hojai District on Sunday.
Addressing the press meet, Dilip Chakraborty,president, Jugijan Government Model Degree College Demand Committee along with Bijan Kr Roy, secretary, Nirmal Kr. Sarkar and other members apprised that since long they have been demanding a Model Government Degree College in Jugijan area within Hojai District. They said if a Government Model Degree College comes up here at remote area like Jugijan then it will benefit the students of Jugijan as well as greater Hojai area to access higher education with ease. They said, “So, we once again request Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Ranoj Pegu to began the session at the proposed Government Model Degree College at Jugijan, at already constructed abanoded ITI building at Jugijan.”
They informed that they have submitted multiple memorandums in demand of a model government degree college at Jugijan to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa sarma and Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Guardian Minister Pijush Hazarika, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Local Legislator Ramkrishna Ghosh, Ex-MLA Shiladitya Dev and other authorities. They also informed while discussion on this significant subject matter with Education Minister in presence of MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh, Education Minister gave them assurance that in the academic year 2025-26, Government will begin the session of the College at abandoned ITI building, if the building is appropriate for Degree College. They further added that on September 2, 2024, Prof Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, Rabindranath Tagore University via an application to Education Minister, Assam had prayed for opening a Government Degree Model College at Jugijan in Hojai. They said in the application the VC had stated that being unable to accomodate the huge numbers of students in day shift, Rabindranath Tagore University (erstwhile Hojai College) had to open morning shift classes from the session 2012-13. This indicates that there is a need for additional degree college in this locality.
Bijoy Chakraborty, noted social worker also interacted with the reporters, he said to accomodate large of students for higher studies Hojai has only two government institutions viz., Rabindranath Tagore University (erstwhile Hojai College) and Hojai Girls’ College. He said the vision of PM Narendra Modi of Developed India by 2047 will only be possible if higher education is made more accessible and affordable all the sections of the society. He said, “We wholeheartedly appeal Government of Assam to fulfil our genuine demand of a Government Model Degree College in Jugijan, for the betterment of students and society as a whole.” Members- Bipul Sarkar, Sashanka Roy and many others were present during the press meet.
