Jumbos terrorize Nagrijul villagers in Baksa district

BAKSA: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and flood, terror of wild elephant stands as another burning problem in Nagrijuli along Indo-Bhutan Border in Baksa. In search of food, a big herd of wild elephants coming from foot hills of Bhutan took shelter along the bank of the river Barnodi near Nagrijuli Tea Garden. On Sunday at about 12.30 am, the herd of wild elephants entered in the village No 2 Dongargaon and broke down grocery shops and ate rice, dal, ata, biscuits etc. After that the herd entered the banana garden of Netra Bahadur Thapa and ate a huge numbers of banana trees. The herd of wild elephant also broke down the house of Ananta Sutradhar. The villagers tried to send away the herd with fire crackers and creating sound with utensils but failed. The herd left the village in the morning and taking shelter along the bank of the river Barnodi near Nagrijuli Tea Garden. Receiving information Forest Beat Officer Bimal Hasda with some forest officials rushed to the village and visited the spot.
