BOKO: Kamrup DC Deba Kumar Mishra along with DDC Sushant Kumar Dutta, ADC Sujata Gogoi, and CEO Kamrup Zilla Parisad Siddharth Goswami along with PWD (Roads) engineers and officials including Boko PWD office In-Charge Manik Dutta took stock of the landslide area between the Boko-Lumpi roads on Tuesday. Due to severe rain from the past few days, a portion of a hill at Longturi Hills area slid down on Saturday evening and totally disconnected the Boko-Lumpi road.
During his inspection, District Commissioner Mishra announced that the obstruction would be cleared through controlled rock blasting, and that the district administration was taking urgent steps to restore connectivity at the earliest. The landslide has led to a complete shutdown of the vital road, cutting off essential transport routes for residents of the inter-state broader Lumpi region. The blockage has sparked widespread concern among locals, who depend heavily on this stretch for daily travel, emergency services, and economic activities.
DC Mishra, while addressing local officials and affected residents at the site, assured that technical teams had been mobilized and safety protocols would be strictly followed during the blasting operation. “Clearing the road is a top priority, and necessary measures are being undertaken promptly,” he said. “We have come here to check on the situation at the landslide-hit road near Assam-Meghalaya border. The route is closed as massive rocks that rolled down following the landslides have blocked the entire route, causing trouble for commuters. This one is the only route for several villagers staying along the Assam-Meghalaya border. If you see, people are able to use the route somehow while passing through the area on foot, but all forms of vehicular movement are currently shut,” said DC Mishra.
The administration is expected to commence blasting operations shortly, following geological assessments and safety clearances. Executive Member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Arjun Chetry also went to the spot with the team and urged them to take immediate actions. Arjun Chhetry emphasized, “More than fifty villages people are depending on this road and now they suffer from various crises including food and other materials. In case of a medical emergency, villagers will face problems due to roads being blocked.”
The Boko-Lumpi road is some 30 kilometres long and the blocked spot is some 17 kilometres from Boko.
