Guwahati: The Kamrup (Metro) District Transport Office has begun the process to cancel the driving license of model Rajkanya Baruah, who is accused of a hit and run offence. Revealing this DTO Gautam Das told media that his office has initiated the process to cancel her driving license.

DTO Das said that the Dispur police, which has been investigating the case has sent a report to the DTO office regarding the matter and based on it they have started the process to permanently cancel her license. He added that the DTO office already suspended her license as per Sections 84 and 85 of the Motor Vehicle Act. " We already suspended her license as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act. Now we are going to cancel her license as per Section 90 of the Act," he added.

On the night of October 1, the Assam model was involved in a car accident in which 9 labourers who were workers of the Public Works Department were injured. One of the labourers has reportedly lost his leg after being hit by her car.

Rajkanya Baruah had committed a non-bailable offence. However, she was able to secure bail within 24-hours of being arrested for the crime.

The office of the Chief Minister, after receiving severe criticism from the public, ordered an inquiry into the matter after which Baruah was re-arrested on Wednesday and was sent to one-day police custody.

Following this, the DCP of Guwahati East Subrajyoti Baruah was issued a show-cause notice for alleged negligence in the case.
