Kidnapped businessman rescued, 3 arrested in Karbi Anglong

Bokajan/Dokmoka: In a major development, Karbi Anglong police have rescued a businessman who has kidnapped on the night of September 13 from his residence cum commercial establishment at Doboka in Karbi Anglong-Hojai border on Wednesday.

As reported, Businessman Bijoy Agarwal was kidnapped at gunpoint by three motor bike-borne youth while the former was closing his business establishment on the night of September 13, 2019. A ransom call of Rs 1 Crore was made to the victim's family for his safe release.

Meanwhile, a fear psychosis prevailed in the area and the Karbi Anglong police were in tremendous pressure following the incident. Police launched a massive investigation and were probing various leads in the case. A series of multiple operations in the neighboring state of Nagaland including areas of Hojai and Karbi Anglong later led to the recovery of the victim from a deserted house in Howraghat- a few kilometers away from the crime scene.

Three people as identified by the victim viz. Tapan Teron, Sanjay Gowala and Janak Basumatary were arrested in connection. The trio are resident of Howraghat town. Police have also seized a motorbike which was reportedly used to execute the foiled kidnap and ransom bid of Rs 1 crore from the gang.
