KMSS Appreciates CM Sarma's Decision of Land Leasing on Guwahati's Hills

GUWAHATI:

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti announced on Saturday that they appreciate the decision made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma about the land leasing on Guwahati's hills.

The political party made the announcement during a news conference at the Gandhibasti KMSS headquarters in Guwahati.

According to the KMSS, all landless people in Assam must be granted land leasing certificates.

The organisation referred to the CM's decision to grant land leasing as "positive news" from yesterday's budget session. KMSS further warned the CM not to retract from his statements, or else the organisation will launch an agitation against him.

In terms of the budget for 2021-2022, the organisation claimed that it is nothing new or unique. The budget includes various suggestions and announcements, as well as pledges made to the impoverished during Covid-19. According to KMSS, there was no economic package in the Assam budget for the current session.

The government also announced that it will strive towards making Guwahati free from encroachments. New methods, such as 24x7 drone surveillance to detect and maintain open areas and hills in the city, will be implemented to ensure that hills in Guwahati stay free of encroachment.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also stated that the pro-poor Assam Budget 2021 will significantly strengthen Assam's COVID19-ravaged economy. Many ground-breaking initiatives in the budget would also accelerate economic recovery post-pandemic and enable Adarniya PM Modi fulfil his ambition of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Though the government appears to be implementing initiatives to assist the economically disadvantaged segments of society, Assam is now seeing huge price increases on nearly all essential commodities including fuel. In  the past several days, the opposition Congress party has held many rallies in Guwahati outside Rajiv Bhavan over the significant increase in the price of vital goods and fuel, causing enormous hardship for the already overburdened population in the midst of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
