KNLA's Last Remaining Cadres Lay Down Arms and Join Mainstream in Assam's Karbi Anglong

Guwahati: In a major accomplishment for the law enforcement agencies and the state government's commitment towards curbing militancy and bringing peace in Assam, the militant outfit Kuki National Liberation Army's (KNLA) last remaining cadres surrendered in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Friday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the home portfolio of the state confirmed the news.

Informing about this successful surrender ceremony where the KNLA cadres laid down their arms, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in his Twitter handle wrote, "Under the guidance of Adarniya PM Shri@narendramodi ji & HM Shri @AmitShahji, we've had a major achievement towards permanent peace in Assam. Last remaining cadres of UPRF/KNLF(KUKI) surrendered & handed over 17 weapons including 4 assault rifles to DIG & SP, Karbi Anglong."

It may be mentioned that, the final remaining cadres of the Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA) surrendered along with their arms in a state-organized surrender ceremony on the hill district of Karbi Anglong in Assam.

Chief Minister Sarma further added that the militant cadres have decided to join the mainstream during the ceremony was attended by the deputy inspector general (DIG) of police and the Karbi Anglong superintendent of police.

It may be noted that, during the surrender ceremony, the KNLA cadres handed over 17 weapons including four sophisticated assault rifles including the INSAS, AK 47s and the US made M-16 to the DIG and Karbi Anglong SP. This is a major step towards the initiation of peace in the Karbi Anglong area, the minister added.
