BOKAJAN: Achieving yet another milestone in its crusade against drug trafficking, the Karbi Anglong Police have once again foiled a major heroin smuggling attempt along the Assam-Nagaland border on Thursday. Police also arrested two persons, including a woman, and seized a huge quantity of heroin from their possession.

The seized drugs consisted of 150 packets containing 2.17 kg of fine quality heroin having an approximate street value of Rs 6 crore in Tier-I and Tier-II cities. The two arrested are 52-year-old kingpin Rozi Rongmei and her husband Angma Kamei. Both are residents of the Lahorijan area bordering Nagaland.

As per reports, the Karbi Anglong police while following a lead from the recent arrest of Th Paone alias "Didi" on June 17 last, arrested 52-year-old Rozi Rongmei along with a huge consignment of narcotics from her possession. Rozi was another major player in the narcotics trade after Didi.

Earlier, Didi was arrested along with 2.2-kilogram heroin from the Assam-Nagaland border, following a lead of Barpather PS case number 30/21, u/s 21 (c) of NDPS Act wherein 64 soap cases containing 723 grams heroin were recovered from a lady passenger on 25th May 2021. Noteworthy that, a single case follow up by Karbi Anglong police involving lady narcotics dealers lead to the recovery of over 4.8 kilograms of heroin in the past couple of months.

Briefing the media, Karbi Anglong SP Pusparaj Singh said, "We were in the pursuit of Rozi for last one month as we wanted to catch her red-handed. A dedicated team was formed to keep round-the-clock surveillance on her movement and her residence which is located close to the Assam-Nagaland border under Khatkhati PS. After much effort and planning, we managed to collect her contact number and placed one of our sources as a customer to strike a deal. Yesterday, she came to deliver the consignment and landed in our trap."
