KOKRAJHAR: The Koch community, known as Rabha in Assam, has launched its own script for use in pre-primary schools. The new script invented by Daychand Rangag was formally launched in a programme organized by Koch Rabha Development Council (KRDC) at North Mendabari in West Bengal on September 27. This was informed by the vice-president of BTR Koch Students' Union, Dhrubajyati Koch.

Sources said the Koch script was invented by Daychand Rangag and the script was written by Sushil Koch Rabha. The Koch community, which has its own language, culture, faith and identity, has decided to introduce the new script for its medium in pre-primary level initially in West Bengal. The community will first train teachers on the new script before introducing the script.

The meeting, which was chaired by the president of Koch Rabha Development Council (KRDC), Bijnath Banto was also attended by its secretary Rabi Bandasak Koch, Ranato Koch, secretary of Koch Deheng Runchung, and Rasan B. Koch, president of BTR Koch Satrao Runchum. Other prominent personalities from the community who attended the programme were Bhabendra Uni, Sushanta Kocha, Satiram Kocha and Rasan B. Koch. Representatives from different organizations of the Koch community from the BTC area also attended the programme.
