KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district administration held a meeting with the Puja Committees of Kokrajhar Sadar subdivision in connection with the upcoming Durga Puja. Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka chaired the meeting held in the conference hall of the Election office, Kokrajhar.

In the meeting attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Circle Officers, officials of APDCL, PWD (electrical), Health and Family Welfare, Public Health Engineering departments, Fire and Emergency Services, District Disaster Management Authority, presidents and secretaries of Puja Committees, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka outlined the guidelines to be followed by the puja committees for free, fair and safe celebration of the ensuing Durga Puja in the district.

She said the Puja committees would have to get permission to conduct the Puja as per the rules. Similarly, permission will have to be obtained from the APDCL for electricity connection.The Deputy Commissioner said that adequate lighting should be arranged at the emersion ghat and around the puja pandals. She added that night guards should be deployed by all the puja committees to ensure that no miscreants can cause damage to the idols after the end of the night puja till the start of the puja in the morning.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka instructed the Puja Committees to make separate arrangement for entry and exit in their puja pandals as well as to appoint adequate number of volunteers. She also urged them to install CCTV cameras around the places of worship to ensure that no miscreants can cause unpleasant situations or be caught if they try to do so.

She advised the committees to ensure that fire extinguishers, including water, sand etc. are kept at all the puja venues. She gave instructions to the departments concernedon proper arrangements for idol immersion sites, puja committees to ensure that the idols are immersed within the stipulated time and to maintain Covid protocol and cleanliness.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Oja, who was also present at the meeting on behalf of the Superintendent of Police, sought cooperation of all to maintain law and order during the puja days. He said that each puja committee should ensure that public roads are not blocked when constructing puja pandals in their respective puja venues. He asked puja committees to engage sufficient number of volunteers, provide separate entrance and exit routes for visitors, prevent the use of alcohol/intoxicants and keep away from using DJ sets during the emersion rallies. He further informed that the district administration had decided to award the Best Eco-Friendly Puja Committee Award to the best three puja committees of the district which would be able to maintain a conducive atmosphere at their places of worship.

Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka conveyed her advance greetings to the Puja Committees on Durga Puja and urged them to cooperate with the district administration by following the guidelines for peaceful and safe Durga Puja celebrations across the district.
