LAKHIMPUR: Commemorating the historic peasants' uprising at Pothorughat of Darrang district and the supreme sacrifice of 140 village farmers on January 28, 1894, the Krishak Swahid Divas was observed at the office of Dhakuakhana Subdivisional Agriculture Officer on Thursday.
The agenda of the event began with the swahid tarpan programme conducted by Dhakuakhana Subdivisional Agriculture Officer Goutam Chandra Deka. It was followed by a cordial interactive session between the agriculture officers and the farmers living in different areas of the subdivision along with a felicitation programme. A total of 23 progressive farmers and eight fertilizer-agro-equipment sellers were feted by the office concerned in the programme which was hosted by Agriculture Development Officer Deepjyoti Chutia. In addition to them, journalists Alok Chamua, Uttam Hazarika, Atul Baruah and Rajib Baruah were feted by the office, appreciating their endeavours with regard to publishing the problems of Dhakuakhana agriculture sector and farmers in the media and making the agriculture officers aware of the problems. Agriculture Development Officers Mandira Borborah, Geetimallika Hazarika, Assistant Agriculture Inspector Uday Baruah were among those who took part in the programme.
