Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized awareness on food and nutrition for rural women in Dibrugarh

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh organized a daylong awareness training on food and nutrition for rural women of the district in its official premises.

DIBRUGARH: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh organized a daylong awareness training on food and nutrition for rural women of the district in its official premises. The programme was organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav of Indian Council of Agricultural Research New Delhi for the month of August with the theme "Food and Nutrition for the Farmers".

Delivering his inaugural speech Dr. Diganta Sharmah, Senior Scientist and Head of the Kendra said, "Fruits available in our State are much more valuable than those exported from other States. We should not ignore our locally available fruits," Dr Sharmah said. While addressing the participants Hemchandra Saikia appreciated ICAR New Delhi for initiating due emphasis on food and nutrition among farming community through KVK and urged rural women to make a habit of eating balanced diet daily to maintain a very sound health. He mentioned that an effective nutritional garden should be maintained by every household of Assam. Supriya Sonowal, another scientist from the Kendra expressed her concern that women should not neglect themselves. Their nutrition plays a very important role in their day-to-day life while performing household duties.

Sangita Bora Saikia, an expert in community science delivered a lecture on hands-on training on scientific preparation of pineapple squash for their economic empowerment through an efficient mode of marketing. Karma Bahadur Chetri and Dr Sudeshna Baruah of the Kendra also helped in making the programme a success. All total of 36 farm women took part in the programme.
