Krishi Vigyan Kendra Sonitpur celebrates Mahila Kisan Divas

Tezpur: As part of the nationwide celebration of Mahila Kisan Divas, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur organized a day-long programme on Thursday in its office campus. Welcoming the participants of the programme, Arifa Momtaz Begum, Subject Matter Specialist (Community Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, spoke about the importance of celebrating Mahila Kisan Divas. She also emphasized the multi-dimensional role of women in agriculture and allied sectors. Scientific cultivation and value addition of mushroom as an income-generating activity was discussed by Sanjukta Saikia, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur.

Dr. Namita Dutta, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, elaborately explained about the production technology of vermicompost to the participants. The president of Da Parbatia Gaon Panchayat, Jamini Kalita, shared her experience in the field of agriculture and allied sector. Naba Sarmah, secretary of District Mahila Morcha, Sonitpur, requested the women folk to take up agriculture as an income-generating avenue. An extempore speech competition was also organized among the participants coordinated by Dr. Bhrigu Kumar Neog, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur to make the participants aware about the role of women in agriculture. To mark the day and to encourage, five progressive women were felicitated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur.
