Lakhimpur COVID-19 tally spikes to 256 with 6 new positive cases

LAKHIMPUR: A total of 6 COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur district on Tuesday and Wednesday. Out of them, four patients, including two returnees from other States, along with one CRPF personnel and one army personnel, were detected positive on Tuesday.

They have been identified as Umesh Basumatary (20) of Na-Khagari Gaon under Silonibari area, Krishna Saikia (21) of Roha-Tiyakiya under Dhakuakhana subdivision, Mintu Konwar (29) of Konwar Gaon under Dhakuakhana subdivision and Kishor Kumar (32) of Vijay Nagar in Andhra Pradesh.

Umesh Basumatary worked at Ramaya Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru as general attendant along with three more youths of the district. All of them started their return journey by train to Lakhimpur on July 6 and arrived in the district on July 10. Their swab samples were collected on July 11 and then they were quarantined at COVID Care Centre at Madhavdev University Girls' Hostel.

On the other hand, Mintu Konwar is a CRPF personnel of 117G Batallion G Company and he was posted at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar. He also started his return journey by flight on July 9 via Kolkata to Guwahati and reached Lakhimpur by ASTC bus from Guwahati on July 10. Two more patients were detected in the district on Wednesday. They have been identified as Aman Basfor of North Lakhimpur Railway Colony and Amar Deuri (26) of Bali Deuri Gaon under Dhakuakhana subdivision. Aman Basfor came in contact with Jasoda Basfor of the same area, who was detected positive on July 10. She was infected with coronavirus while attending a marriage ceremony held at Railway Colony on July 28 attended by a group of people coming from Guwahati along with the bridegroom.

Another positive patient, Amar Deuri is a returnee from Bengaluru and he arrived in Lakhimpur on July 11. With these newly-detected patients, the number of COVID-19 cases has spiked to 256 in the district. Out of them, 144 patients have already been discharged while 102 are active cases.
