LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur Zone Convener Committee for Nat: Theatre Archive of Assam Project was constituted on Thursday in a public meeting convened at the conference hall of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous).
Nat: Theatre Archive of Assam Project is a project undertaken by Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Samaj that has sought to gather, amalgamate, digitize and make accessible to the researcher and lay person alike the remarkably rich history of theatre in Assam through the collection of archival theatre, dramatic, performance materials, paraphernalia and writings. This history is centuries old and consists of various heterogeneous folks, classical, secular and religious, amateur and commercial, modern and contemporary experimental strands. The mission of the project is to collect and document the tradition of theatre from the medieval to contemporary time of the State, to preserve and digitize the records of the old and contemporary theatrical process and products of all generations, to ensure a better understanding of theatre as vital elements of cultural history, to support collaboration in theatre activists, practitioners and scholars, to re-investigate the Assamese theatre history from the perspectives of both the theatre practices and the practitioners, to encourage the research and critical inquiry into the Theatre Arts of Assam.
The meeting organized on the occasion was held under the management of theatre personality Mintu Saikia. It commenced with Nazim Ahmed, a noted theatre personality of the State, in the chair. Project Director of Nat: Theatre Archive of Assam Project, from Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Samaj attended the meeting and he illustrated the details of the project.
North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, Lakhimpur district unit Asom Natya Sanmilan president Kanakeswar Deka Rajkonwar, dramatist Niran Kumar Borah, Kumud Baruah, Rajib Gogoi, Bhava Pujari and many other theatre activists delivered lectures in the meeting highlighting various aspects of the mission.
In the same meeting, the Lakhimpur Zone Convener Committee for the project was constituted with Mintu Saikia, Kumud Baruah as conveners.
