TEZPUR: The 15th Annual Natya Samrat Prafulla Borah Memorial Drama Festival Kicked off on Saturday at Ban Theatre. The three-day drama festival is organized by Abadan, a socio cultural organization of Tezpur in association with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Guwahati.

The programme started with the lighting of the earthen lamp by Anshuman Borah, Son of Prafulla Borah, and it was followed by floral tributes to the Natya Samrat by Pramath Das, Bhupen Kataki, members of Axom Xahitya Xabha and other dignitaries. The festival was formally inaugurated by veteran stage actor, Bhabani Nath.

President and secretary of Abadan, Pramath Das and Bhupen Kataki said that the Natya Samrat Prafulla Bora had made immense contribution towards the theatre. It is our duty to make the young people aware of the life and works of Prafulla Bora. The drama festival dedicated to the memory of Prafulla Bora has to a certain extent succeeded in kindling interest in the youth. They further said that this festival has always retained its tradition of introducing theatre lovers to plays that have a social message.

The ceremony followed by the play of the first night, Madhab Mandir Drama section present 'Pohar Sandhanir Hepah', written by Actor and director Niranjan Das and directed by Actor Gautam Pathak and Edited by Anshuman Bora son of Natya Samrat Prafulla Bora.

Two plays 'Luitok Bhetibo Kune', written by Natya Samrat Prafulla Bora and directed by actor director Babul Barthakur and 'Xaap aru Bhekuli', written by Natya Samrat Prafulla Bora, directed by cultural activist Amitabh Kalita will be staged on the second day.
