Guwahati: Following the fatal road accident at Lalmati on NH-27 that claimed two lives on the evening of April 9, the Basistha Police have registered a case under Case No. 208/25 and arrested the accused dumper driver, identified as Raju Boro of Boko.
The arrest was made based on preliminary findings and the severity of the crash, which involved five vehicles, including a dumper, two scooters, a Swift, and a Fortuner. The driver has been produced before the Court and forwarded to judicial custody.
As per official sources, the investigation is ongoing. Police are probing whether a ‘speed governor’ (a system meant to limit the vehicle’s speed) was installed and functional in the dumper at the time of the incident. Additionally, efforts are being made to determine the exact speed at which the vehicle was moving before the crash.
A dedicated crash investigation team, comprising officials from multiple road safety-related departments, has already visited the accident site. They are examining the probable cause of the incident, including technical failures, human error, and road conditions.
Authorities have assured that the investigation is being conducted in right earnest and that anyone found guilty will be held accountable as per law.
