SILCHAR: In its continued drive, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell of Assam Police caught a Lat Mondal while he was taking a bribe. Utpal Kumar Nath, the Lat Mondal was arrested on Wednesday morning at his office chamber at Pailapool in Lakhipur while he was taking bribe of Rs 2000 for issuing a land related certificate to the complainant who had earlier informed the V& AC officials. Nath, the Lat Mondal of the office of Settlement Officer of Cachar and Hailakandi, was trapped by the anti-corruption wing by tampering with the currency notes with chemical that he was supposed to accept as bribe. As soon as Nath received the money, the anti-corruption officials surfaced at his office and caught him red handed after performing the chemical test.

Sources said, Nath made it compulsory for the people who visit the Settlement office for various land related documents to pay him Rs 2000 as a bribe. A complaint was registered against Nath with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. A team of the cell reached Silchar to trap the Lat Mondal and finished their operation successfully.
