Leopard caged, later released near Numaligarh in Golaghat district

Numaligarh: One leopard was caged in no. 4 Rongbong near Numaligarh in Golaghat district on Sunday. A leopard was creating mayhem in the area since the last few days. One person was attacked by the leopard in no. 4 Rongbong village when he had gone to a paddy field to feed his cattle on March 26. Four other persons were severely injured by the leopard in Dholakochari village on the same day.

Acting on the mounting pressure by public, Golaghat Forest Division set a cage in no. 4 Rongbong village a week ago. On Sunday, locals of the area saw a huge adult male leopard inside the cage and the area was soon filled by locals. After being informed, a team of foresters reached the spot and took custody of the caged leopard. After checking the health conditions of the caged leopard, it was released in an undisclosed location inside the Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary later in the day.

The rescue and release task was led by Forest Range Officer of Golaghat Pushpadhar Borgohain and he was accompanied by other subordinate foresters.
