LGBRIMH hosts workshop on machine learning in clinical diagnostics

TEZPUR: A one-day hands-on workshop titled “Basic Techniques & Machine Learning in Clinical Microbiology, Pathology & Biochemistry” was successfully conducted by the Central Laboratory of LGBRIMH, Tezpur. The workshop aimed to enhance the technical proficiency of paramedical professionals and students from across Northeast India.

The programme began with an inaugural session held at the LGBRIMH cafeteria. Dr Jyoti Hazarika, Director and Head of the Department of Microbiology, welcomed the participants and formally inaugurated the event with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

The first session featured insightful lectures on diagnostic and laboratory practices. Dr Karuppasamy Chellapandi from RIPANS, Aizawl, discussed “Basic Diagnostic Methods Used in Microbiology and Their Clinical Application,” providing valuable knowledge on fundamental microbiological techniques. Following this, Dr Malavika Barman from GMCH, Guwahati, spoke on ‘Laboratory Errors Despite Good Quality Control: A Challenge for Modern Biochemistry Laboratories,’ highlighting quality assurance challenges in clinical labs. The third presentation was by Dr Ashim Manta of Diphu Medical College, who elaborated on ‘Coagulation: Automation and Its Practical Implications,’ emphasizing technological advancements in pathology.

The second session was dedicated to practical training, where participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations involving clinical equipment and laboratory techniques in biochemistry, microbiology, and pathology.

The event was coordinated and hosted by Dr Kashmita Bhattacharyya, Assistant Professor of Pathology. A total of 23 participants from various paramedical institutions across the Northeast region, along with students of LGBRIMH, took part in the workshop. Esteemed medical professionals including Dr Kushal Tamuli, Dr Jayanta Kr. Das, Dr Jadab K. Phukan, Dr Jitu Mani Kalita, and Dr Debahuti Sabhapandit were also in attendance. Certificates of participation were awarded at the end of the workshop, acknowledging the dedication and involvement of all attendees.
