KOKRAJHAR: The livestock immunization programme at the fringe village of Raimona National Park in Kokrajhar district has started from Friday. Jointly organized by the Forest Department, Wildlife Trust India, and the Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, the programme was attended by Dr Daoharu Baro, Nazrul Islam from Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), Dr Pankaj Chakraborty, Dr Subham Das, Dibya Jyoti Das, Heremdao Basumatary from Gossaigaon State Veterinary Dispensary, and forest staff from Sanfan Range.
Dr Daoharu Baro of WTI emphasized the importance of vaccinating livestock in the fringe areas to prevent the spread of diseases that could potentially affect the wild animals. “Such vaccination programmes should be held annually, with regular health assessments for the animals,” said Dr Pankaj Chakrborty. Sources informed that FMD vaccination was done to almost 300 cattle on the first day itself. The event was held under the guidance of Bhanu Sinha, DFO of Kachugaon Division, Raimona National Park.
