
GUWAHATI: On the occasion of Diwali, The Kamrup Metro district administration has declared a local holiday on November 5, 2021, for Diwali celebrations.
In an order undersigned by joint secretary stated, "I am directed to convey the approval of the Governor of Assam with regard to the declaration of "Local holiday" on account of Diwali on 5th November, 2021 (Friday)."
On the other hand, Kamrup (Rural) district government has also proclaimed a local holiday on Friday, November 5. A notification under the Deputy Commissioner was published declaring a local holiday for all official, financial, institution, falling under the jurisdiction of Kamrup District.
Officers, personnel, and instructors who are involved in the administration of any examinations or other Essential Services in the district, however, are exempt from the scope of this municipal holiday.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Guwahati, in exercise of powers conferred upon him U/S 144 CrPC, has prohibited the use of fireworks and bursting of crackers within 500-metre radius from Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati, Oil India Pumping Station, Satgaon and oil pipelines within Central Police District, Guwahati.
Given the forthcoming Dipawali celebrations, the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA), will monitor the air quality in Guwahati a week before the Dipawali and week after the festival. The air quality degrades sharply after the rainy season due to dust and emissions by vehicles and industries. The dry winter may pose a challenge to handle the situation
The APCB (Assam Pollution Control Board) allowing bursting of only green crackers with a two-hour window period during Deepawali, Chhath puja, Christmas and New Year eve and prohibiting all other types of crackers is critical to keep air pollution in check across the State.
There will be total ban on the sale or use of all kinds of fire crackers in Guwahati city till the midnight of November 30. This was stated in a notification from the Pollution Control Board, Assam. Mentionable the ban came into force from the midnight of November 9.
