DHUBRI: The locals protested over the imminent eviction on nearly 4,000 bighas of land in Alamganj and Gouripur. Following reports of eviction from government land in Alamganj near Gouripur in Dhubri district, thousands of families living in the area have become deeply concerned.
A public meeting held near Chitolkati ME School organized by Chitolkati regional committee under the Sadou Asom Goria Moriya-Deshi Jatiya Parishad. In the meeting, members of the parishad’s Dhubri district committee and local residents resolved that they would not give up their patta land under any circumstances. However, they stated that those who were currently occupying government land were ready to surrender it to the government and the district administration.
The Dhubri district administration is currently undertaking land demarcation work in several villages under the jurisdiction of the Gouripur revenue circle office, including Alamganj part 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9t, as well as Baghmara village and others. An official informed that the demarcation is part of a land acquisition for a large-scale development project under the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative.
An informed source said that the government was planning to acquire around 4,000 bighas of land in the Alamganj area for the major project. Out of this, approximately 900 bighas were registered patta land, while around 2,200 bighas were classified as government land (khas land).
On Wednesday, senior district officials including the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Gouripur circle officer, held a discussion with the patta landholders of Alamganj regarding the issue.
Meanwhile, in Thursday’s meeting held at Chitolkati under the leadership of the Goria Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad’s district committee, it was firmly decided that the indigenous people and patta holders would never surrender their legally-owned land.
