NAGAON: In a dramatic turn of events, local residents of Nagaon’s Gumuthagaon area launched a raid on a roadside dhaba in the area, catching several youths involved in anti-social activities on Thursday. The raid was carried out at ‘Nagaon Dhaba’ located in the Gumuthagaon village under the jurisdiction of Itachali police outpost.
According to eyewitnesses, the locals were able to apprehend a youth and a girl who were allegedly involved in immoral activities. However, several others managed to escape from the dhaba. The residents also seized objectionable materials from the premises.
The situation turned heated during the raid, but the local police were informed, and they arrived at the scene to take control of the situation. The police detained the dhaba owner, the youth, and the girl, while several others escaped through the backside of the dhaba.
The locals had been complaining about the dhaba’s involvement in immoral activities and illegal liquor trade for a long time. It is alleged that despite repeated complaints, the police failed to take strong action against the dhaba.
The residents demanded that the police take stern action against dhabas involved in such anti-social activities and illegal liquor trade. Several other dhabas located at Rupahi Oruna under Rupahihat PS, including ‘Signet,’ ‘New Beautiful Restaurant,’ and ‘Atithi Dhaba,’ are also alleged to be involved in similar activities.
The incident sparked outrage among the locals, who are demanding action from the authorities to put an end to such activities.
