Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange' alert in terms of rainfall, with a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Nagaon and Morigaon districts for August 8. Moreover, moderate rainfall is predicted at most places over Assam on Friday.
According to IMD terminology, an orange alert translates to 'be prepared to take action' and serves as a warning to the authorities.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, issued a special weather bulletin for heavy to very heavy rainfall in two districts of middle Assam. The bulletin said, "Heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hrs) to very heavy rain (12-20 cm in 24 hrs) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nagaon & Morigaon, accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning."
The RMC also issued an overall state forecast for Friday, which stated, "Moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Assam."
Moreover, a 'Yellow' alert has been issued for Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts for August 8. As per IMD terminology, a yellow alert means to 'WATCH (be aware)', which is issued to the authorities concerned to be watchful over the emerging situation.
The state experienced rainfall in several areas in the state over the past 24 hours. According to the RMC, the chief amount of rainfall in different places in Assam over the past 24 hours (3 cm and above) was as follows: Moranhat (Dibrugarh district) 18 cm, Chouldhuaghat (Arg) (Lakhimpur district) 9 cm, Chouldhowaghat (Lakhimpur district) 9 cm, Bihubar (Sivasagar district) 5 cm, Nt Xing (Ranganadi) (Lakhimpur district) 4 cm, Sonari (Arg) (Charaideo district) 4 cm, Dharamtul (Arg) (Morigaon district) 3 cm, Dibrugarh A/P (Dibrugarh district) 3 cm, North Lakhimpur (Lakhimpur district) 3 cm, Raha (Arg) (Nagaon district) 3 cm, Dharamtul (Morigaon district) 3 cm, Khowang (Dibrugarh district) 3 cm, Dibrugarh (Aws) (Dibrugarh district) 3 cm, Lakhimpur (Aws) (Lakhimpur district) 3 cm.
It should be noted here that the IMD had earlier issued a rainfall warning for the Northeast region until August 11.
