TANGLA: Gross negligence and sub-standard work under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana have been alleged at Orang in Udalguri district. The scheme envisages to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages.

According to reports, the Champabari to Phulaguri road, including cross drainage under PMGY 2017-18, Batch 2, the foundation stone of which was laid by Mangaldai MP Ramen Deka on October 13, 2018 at an estimate amount of Rs 211.57 lakh for a stretch of 4.3 km, has started deteriorating due to the alleged use of sub-standard materials. The complaint of aggrieved locals had also forced the officials posted at PMGSY division to visit the site but to no avail.

The locals have alleged that the officials, in sheer abuse of their position and in connivance with the contractor, allowed use of sub-standard materials and flouted norms in the execution of the work in order to give undue pecuniary benefit to the contractor. The locals have demanded the intervention of the higher authorities and department concerned to conduct an inquiry into the matter and to take action against the guilty.
