LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration observed the 1st Loka Kalyan Divas marking the 72nd death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, who was a unique politician and eminent freedom fighter. He served as the first Chief Minister of Assam after India achieved freedom. He was a follower of the Gandhian principle of non-violence as a political tool. Due to his unselfish dedication towards Assam and its people, the then Governor of Assam, Jayram Das Doulatram conferred him with the title 'Lokpriya' (loved by all). Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee conferred the Bharat Ratna honour on him posthumously in 1999. 'Lokapriya' was also honoured with a life-size statue which was unveiled on October 1 in 2002 in the Parliament House by the then President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam.

In Lakhimpur, the LokKalyan Divas was observed in the auditorium of the District Library. It was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan by lighting an earthen lamp in front of the portrait of Gopinath Bordoloi. In his lecture, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Government of Assam had taken decision to observe the death anniversary of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi as Lok Kalyan Divas in the cabinet meeting held on July 7 in 2021. He added that attempts had also been taken for the first time to confer 'Lok Sewa Puraskar' to five non-Gazetted employees in each district and 10 non-Gazetted employees at the State level (except teachers) as best employees.

DHUBRI: Three government employees were awarded for their dedicated services by Dhubri district administration during the celebration of Lok Kalyan Divas celebrated on the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi at the Dhubri district Library Auditorium on Friday. The recipients of the award were Sanjib Paul Choudhury, Pampi Rani Saha and Kanchan Kumar. With the award, all of them received a citation and Rs 25,000 for their dedicated and sincere services from Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP.

Earlier, at the onset of the programme, earthen lamp was lit and floral tributes were offered to Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi by the officials present in the meeting.

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh district administration observed Lok Kalyan Divas at Auniati Satra auditorium in Dibrugarh on Friday. To commemorate the death anniversary of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the Lok Kalyan Divas was observed in Dibrugarh. Two government employees were selected as the best workers of the Dibrugarh district. Niru Baruah and Dipshika Konwar were selected for the award for their best service. They were conferred with a citation and Rs 25,000 each.

State cabinet minister Bimal Borah, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, District Development Commissioner Sanjay Dutta, DMB chairman Saikat Patra, senior journalist Ikbal Ahmed were present during the programme.

KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district administration observed the Lok Kalyan Divas on Friday at the auditorium Hall of Kokrajhar Science College. The event was attended by Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Minister of Handloom and Textiles, Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Bodoland department, MLA of 30 Kokrajhar East (ST) Constituency Lawrence Islary, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner, other officials and leading citizens of Kokrajhar district.

Delivering the introductory address, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka said that the Lok Kalyan Diwas was organized as per the direction of the State government.

In his speech, Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma mentioned that as per Assam government's decision, Lok Sewa Purushkar award was given to three non-gazetted employees of Kokrajhar district for their loyalty, efficiency and ideal service and for their contribution to the advancement of the State Government.
