Kokrajhar: Raikosh (The Demon), a short drama staged by Lwrgi Theatre Group (LTG) of Kokrajhar on Sunday evening at the burial place of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma received huge applause from the viewers. The drama reflected the real threat on the very existence of land, culture, tradition, identity and control over the rights of the territory of the backward indigenous people.
Raikosh was written and directed by Keshab Mashahary of the National School of Drama, who runs an artistes' home named 'Children Factory' in remote Bishmuri village. The artistes for this one-hour short drama were chosen from Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa districts but mostly from his Children Factory. The aim of staging the drama was to garner people's support in their endeavour to establish an artistes' village and office of the LTG at Chandamari near Kokrajhar.
In the drama, Raikosh was given character as an invader who intended to take control over the territory and overshadow the culture, identity and rights of indigenous people, besides making them slaves under him. The mission of Raikosh was to capture land and set up of industries to exploit resources.
Meanwhile, Haka Mura, a local team leader tried to defend their territory and fought for several times with Raikosh but failed. Many of his accomplices were captured and put in jail. The invasion and barbarism of Raikosh over poor local people increased and villagers become helpless and their culture and traditions too were wiped away.
The brave defender Haka Mura and his associates became worried as they were left with no physical might to defeat Raikosh. They lacked knowledge to fight tactfully. Finally, they decided to fight with the merit of intelligence. Haka Mura left for higher education to acquire adequate knowledge and skills to defeat the demon. In the special show, the president of LTG, Swmdwn Brahma called upon the people to extend their support in establishing the office and to encourage the young artistes.
