Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota remembered on his 112th birth anniversary

JAMUGURIHAT: Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota was remembered on his 112th birth anniversary by different organizations. A meeting was called on by Srimoyee Sahitya Gosthi at Dakhin Nagsankar HS near here on November 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary poet of the Nepali literature. The day-long programme began with the hoisting of the flag by Anamika Sarma, president of Srimoyee Sahitya Gosthi while Lila Kanta Sarma, Head Master of Dakhin Nagsankar High School lighted earthen lamps in front of the portrait of Mahakabi. Dramatist Purna Kumar Sarma and Pragya Devi, appointed speakers of the meeting recalled the literary contributions of Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad that gave the Nepali literature a height along with analyzing the literary value of his literature. Phanindra Upadhyaya, a retired teacher addressed the gathering in his public speech and read out some evergreen poems composed by the Mahakabi.

The meeting was chaired by Anamika Sarma while Susmita Devi Srimoyee Sahitya Gosthi briefed the objectives of the meeting. In another meeting organized by Biswanath Town Branch of Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS), the Mahakabi was fondly remembered. The meeting was organized in an auditorium of Biswanath Jnan Bharati School, Loknath Shastri, president of Nepali Samannay Samiti, Biswanath Chariali was in the chair. In the beginning of the meeting a floral tribute was paid to the legendary poet. Dr. Bhakta Prasad Goutam, president of the Biswanath Town branch of ANSS carried out the proceedings while Rajen Sarma, Chitra Powrel, Durga Upadhyaya, Sadananda Sarma recalled the literary contributions of late Devkota.
