Dibrugarh: Mahila Kisan Divas was celebrated in the Banipur area here under the aegis of Dibrugarh chapter of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Supriya Sonowal of the Kendra told the participants - progressive farm women - that they could avail opportunities of various capacity building or training programmes for their required skill development in order to attain due empowerment in their life. An expert in entomology, Sanghamitra Sarma, while speaking as a resource person, provided appropriate answers to several problems faced by farm women in carrying out various agricultural activities like insect problem in vegetable crops and flowers through organic mode of cultivation.

Hemchandra Saikia, an expert in Agricultural Economics, while speaking on the occasion, informed the participants that the Government of India was organizing Mahila Kisan Divas to encourage and inspire all farm women for their crucial role in agricultural development, food security and household management. He said that farm women should not consider themselves as weaker section of the society because they were playing a greater role in the field. He urged all the participants to explore their skill, to market their skills in the form of producing profitable and market oriented value-added produce or products having huge consumer demand in both local and foreign market.
