HOWRAGHAT: The taxation sector of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) received a major boost when a number of public and private industry and commercial sectors started paying the compulsory tax levied on them by the council authority for the first time in the history of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
Taxation sector of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, which was in shambles till last year, has been revamped to the stage of major revenue earning department of the council now, surpassing the traditional Forest, Transportation and Excise departments within this short period.
Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, placed this department under the disposal of the Secretary to the CEM and his trusted ally, Mukul Kathar last year.
The refurbished taxation department is targeting more than Rs 100 crore annual revenue now and it is nearing its objective. The tax sector has gone through complete overhaul, adding potential tax payers with its reformation process.
The key players in telecom, power, transportation and other excise sectors have started paying duty and levy to the council authority. Reliance Jio has cleared its due of Rs 31 lakh to the council recently, Bharti Airtel Limited and other sectors like BSNL, Assam Power Distribution Co. Limited, OIL etc have started negotiation with the council to fix the nitty-gritties of tax particulars.
