Man arrested after lover dies at GMCH in Guwahati

TANGLA: In a strange turn of events, a 54 year old married man was arrested after the girl, he was allegedly in a relationship, died due to pregnancy related complications at GMCH in Guwahati on October 14.

The Udalguri district committee of Nari Adhikar Suraksha Samiti had lodged an FIR with Tangla Police against Talukdar alleging that the victim was lured and abused physically and mentally on promise of job after which she went missing from her residence on October 4. "We have lodged an FIR after the matter was brought to our notice by the victims' family members, " president of Udalguri chapter, Nari Adhikar Suraksha Samiti, Runumi Bora said. "The victim was not provided proper medical care during pregnancy and the foetus was found dead and later the victim also died during treatment at GMCH," she said. She further demanded proper investigation in the case and justice to the bereaved family members.

Meanwhile, the accused Ganesh Talukdar was arrested from his rented house of Kalaigaon and was produced before the CJM court of Udalguri on Monday and was remanded to police custody for two days . "We have registered the case vide Tangla PS case no. 164 /21 under section 417/493/314/201/302 IPC, and are investigating the matter, and the post mortem report is awaited," Tangla Officer-in-Charge, Tridip Kumar Dutta said. The accused Talukdar has claimed that the victim was married to him for the last one year. Meanwhile, the conscious circles of Tangla town have demanded proper investigation in the matter and justice for the bereaved family members.
