Man held on charge of killing wife by Darrang Police

MANGALDAI: The Darrang Police in a significant achievement has arrested the absconding husband namely Gautam Baishya accused in the sensational killing of his newly married wife. It may be mentioned here that on December 24 last, Krishna Moni Deka (19) wife of the arrested accused Gautam Baishya of village Borsatra of Dahi Mouza under Mangaldai Police station was found lying dead in a suspicious manner in the drawing room. After getting foul smell, the villagers immediately informed Mangaldai Police, but all the family members of the in laws family of the deceased fled away creating a sense of suspicion. The body of the ill fated wife after the post mortem was handed over to her family on Monday. But an agitated mob of about 4,000 people from nearby areas got assembled on the house of Gautam Deka and performed the funeral in the courtyard and also partially damaged the house. Though police tried to disperse the violent mob, they assaulted the police team causing minor injuries to several police personnel including a woman police constable. However the police finally dispersed the violent mob on that evening.

On the basis of a letter written by the deceased housewife, the police on Monday had arrested Bichitra Kumar Barua - the Gaon Burha (village head man) of village Kaikara in this connection. In the wee hours, the police team comprising sub inspectors Neeraj Alam Choudhury, Krishna Kanta Laskar and Dantejit Deuri arrested the absconding accused husband Gautam Baishya from the house of one Satya Thakuria of Azara in Kamrup (rural) district. The police have also arrested one Balo Ram Rajbongshi of village Tamulipara. However both the parents of the arrested accused Gautam Baishya have been absconding till filling of this report.

On the other hand, in view of the prevailing situation in the area, Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan has deployed security personnel while deputy adviser of the Village Defence Organization Mukut Saikia has also made arrangements for the round the clock duty by the volunteers of Village Defence Party.
