LAKHIMPUR: State executive member of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) and Lakhimpur district unit adviser of the organization, Raju Singha demanded the immediate arrest of Dr. Siddhi Prashad Deuri, resident of Prateem Path, Pub Milan Nagar, Dibrugarh, and Moran College Principal Mitali Konwar Deuri who are allegedly accused of attempting to kill a minor child by pouring hot water on his body while he was fast asleep on August 27.

Regarding the issue, the human right activist submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP) through e-mail on Thursday. In the memorandum, he stated that the couple had violated the law of the land by engaging a 12-year old child as labour at their home.

"So, we have demanded to arrest them immediately and to ensure exemplary punishment for them," stated Raju Singha in the memorandum. Through the same memorandum, he alleged that the accused couple might get opportunity to go into hiding due to the dereliction of the investigating police officer of the case. Under such circumstances, he also demanded the DGP to suspend the investigating police officer too.
