LAKHIMPUR: Organized in order to carry on an intellectual revolution to attract the upcoming generations towards books, the Mangalmoy Book Festival - 2022 (Mangalmoy Grantha Utsav - 2022) concluded with grand success on Sunday. The three-day long event was organized by Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra, a leading institution of Lakhimpur working for social, cultural, literary, academic development, at Uttar Lakhimpur Xahitya Xabha Bhawan premises from Friday in association with Uttar Lakhimpur Xahitya Xabha and Mother Language Application sub-committee of Axam Xahitya Xabha.
On Friday, the event was inaugurated by prominent academician, writer Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi. Uttar Lakhimpur Xahitya Xabha vice-president Dipak Hazarika delivered the welcome address in the inaugural session which was chaired by president Dr. Premananda Howborah. Assistant secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Indramoni Rajkumaar delivered speech in the programme. It was followed by a series of literary competitions among the students, which was inaugurated by writer Prasanta Kumar Nath. Then a book release programme was organized under the chairmanship of organizing committee president Uday Sankar Hazarika. Director of Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra Jiten Baruah delivered the welcome address.
In the programme, eight books were released. The souvenir of the event, Baibhav, edited by Sanjib Upadhyay, was released by retired professor Dr. Bonti Gogoi Howborah, working president, Akash, Axam Xahitya Xabha. On the other hand, Prabandha Shrinkhal, an anthology of articles by Dr. Bonti Gogoi Howborah was released by Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi while national awardee science writer Dr. Amiya Rajbonshi released Anusmriti, Principal of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia released Bibhavan and Principal of LTK College Dr. Bubul Kumar Saikia released Suryastar Henguli Akash of the same writer. In the same programme, former Assistant Secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Niran Kumar Borah's Lakhimpuror Aitijyar Rengani was released by poet Dr. Ramesh Kumar Kakati while North Lakhimpur Press Club president Kumud Baruah released Buddhir Samrat Birbal of the same writer. On the other hand, Ganesh Bhuyan released the eighth year's eleventh issue of the Mangamoy Patrika.
It was followed by the Kabi Sanmilan of the event, which commenced under the management of poet Bhagyalakhi Deka. The programme was chaired by Dr. Bonti Gogoi Howborah. In the programme, an anthology of poems, named Kabita -24, edited by Bhagyalakhi Deka, was released as strong voice against war. It was released by retired professor, writer Narayan Bauah. Poems of a total of 55 poets opposing war have been incorporated in the anthology. Another book named Ranganadi Dodhisi, by professor Rupanjali Morang Saha was released in the same programme by Dr. Bonti Gogoi Howborah. More than 40 poets recited their self-composed poems in the programme. In the evening, the cultural programme was inaugurated by theatre activist, lawyer Rajib Gogoi.
The second day agenda of the event, on Saturday, began with a literary-cum-cultural programme among women writers, artistes and social activists. It was chaired by professor Mandira Hazarika. It was followed by the ceremonial distribution of Sahityajyoti and Kotha Baibhav awards for the year of 2022, instituted since 2006 by Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad, the associate institution of Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra. This year Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad honoured noted poet Pranab Kumar Barman with Sahityajyoti Award and fiction writer Rasna Palok with Kotha Baibhav Award. The cultural programme in the evening was inaugurated by lawyer, poet Tirtha Das. The concluding day agenda on Sunday, kicked off with an interactive session among the senior citizens of Lakhimpur district. The programme was chaired by Dr. Upendra Nath Dutta in the presence of of a host of various veteran persons of the district who contributed much in various fields. It was followed by another interactive session with Kotha Baibhav awardee Rasna Palok and Sahityajyoti awardee Pranab Kumar Barman under the chairmanship of writer Nripen Phukan.
In the programme, Rasna Palok, the young writer of several popular novels, who hails from Kekuri-Madhupur of Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur, laid stress on people's positive attitude to bring change in the society. She highlighted the problems faced by women in conservative society. She also expressed happiness at being honoured with the prestigious Kotha Baibhav award, while replying to various queries of the audience regarding her literary journey and future plan. The response to the book festival by book lovers was quite admiring and satisfactory, the organizers and the book sellers informed.
