Mangalmoy Book Festival concludes successfully at Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The colourful five day-long event book fair titled Mangalmoy Grantha Utsav - 2020, (Mangalmoy Book Festival - 2020), organized by Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra of Lakhimpur, concluded on Sunday with grand success.

During the five days of the event, book lovers of Lakhimpur district were seen visiting the book fair in search of their favourite books of various subjects like science, literature, autobiographies of noted personalities along with other subject of their interest. The book fair was organized at North Lakhimpur Boys’ Government HS School hostel premises as part of steps taken towards intellectual evolution with a view to laying emphasis on the importance of reading books.

The agenda of the concluding day began with a get-together of the poets which commenced with poet-cum-professor of Economics of Lakhimpur Telahi Kamalaboria College, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Kakati in the chair. In the programme, almost 50 poets recited their self-composed poems amidst a cordial environment of interaction and criticism of the poems recited. Senior poets like Dilip Gogoi, Ponaram Gandhia and Jiten Baruah were among those who recited poems in the programme.

It was followed by a special children programme with story-telling and poetry recitation events. The programme was organized in a view to enhance the eloquence of the growing children. The prizes of all competitions organized among the students during the five days were given away to the winners in the same programme. A colourful cultural programme was organized in the evening as part of concluding day ceremony.

On the other hand, the Sahityajyoti and Kotha Baibhav Bota (awards) for the year of 2020, co-ordinated by Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad, a pioneer publication institution of Lakhimpur district, were conferred to the winners in a ceremonial programme organized in a befitting manner on the fourth day. This year, the Natun Sur Prakashan Parishad extended the Sahityajyoti Bota to Prantik editor, prominent writer and journalist Pradip Baruah and Padma Shri Surya Hazarika. On the other hand, a writer of the young generation, Tunujyoti Gogoi received the Kotha Boibhava Bota. In the same programme held under the management of Mangalmoy Patrika associate editor Pankaj Sabhapandit, the Mangalmoy Lokashilpi Bota was given away to folk-artiste Jiban Gharpholia while the Naba Uddipan Bota was conferred to noted career counsellor Dr. Buljit Buragohain and the Grantha Sumangal Bota was extended to Dhiraj Kumar Lahkar.

On the same day, a symposium on ‘Selection of career and the future of students’ was also organized with Dr. Buljit Buragohain as a resource person. He delivered an informative speech addressing the competitive exam aspirants, highlighting various aspects of career selection. Two documentaries titled Jivanar Rang Bichari, based on the life and agonies of cerebral palsy patients, and the another titled Shilpi Chandra Kamal, produced by Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra, were screened in the evening. Padma Shri Surya Hazarika formally released Jivanar Rang Bichari in the programme.
